DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN
We regret to chronicle the death of another old and valued citizen of this county, in the person of Mr Thomas Hardy, who died on Monday, the 14th inst, at his residence, twelve miles Southeast of LaGrange. He was in the 76th year of his age and had been a resident of this county, living at the same place for 43 years, he having removed here in the fall of 1827. Mr. Hardy was a quiet, orderly and thrifty citizen and leaves many friends to mourn his loss. (Sumbitted by: Ann Burnett Hatter)

Obituary for Samuel Hardy and G. T. Tuder
Died, at the home of his daug, Mrs Robert Lewis, of near Waddill, Mo. April 18th, 1901 at about 6 PM Eld. Samuel H Hardy. He was born in Barren Co, KY July 5th, 1828. Age at death 72 years 9 months 13 days. Converted at the age of fourteen uniting with the Baptist church. His wife died many years ago. Of the seven children born to him five are dead. One son, James Hardy, and one daughter, Mrs Mattie Lewis survive him. He was ordained to the work of the Gospel ministry June 5th, 1858 in the state of Ky. He therefore was a preacher in active service about 43 years. His ministry seemed very fruitful, especially the early part of it. I heard him say that perhaps he had baptized as many as two thousand persons. He came to Missouri about 1884 and has been a zealous worker in the cause being pastor of many churches some of which were among the largest.
He was once Moderator of Shoal Creek Association and twice preached the Introductory sermon. He was of a very sociable disposition, hence had many friends. While he was an uncompromising Baptist he possessed the ability to so preach the doctrine as to not give offense to others of different faith. He will be greatly missed in many homes, but we sorrow not as those who have no hope. We shall meet him again. We are glad his suffering was so short. It is said he visited one of the neighbors in the morning coming home at noon ate his dinner as usual and was dead at 6 that evening.
He was buried in the Macedonia cemetery in the honors of Masonary. The writer preached his funeral an account which appears in connection with other things stated below.
Died, at his home in Neosho, Mo April 18th, 1901, George T Tuder after an illness of many months. He was born in Boone county, Ky. September 5th, 1828, age 72 years, 7 months 13 days. He professed faith in Christ and joined the Shawnee Run Baptist Church in Mercer Co, Ky at the age of 14 years. He was married to Martha Batterton Sept. 25th. 1851, in Tiptoa county, Indiana, of which marriage there were born ten children, three of whom have gone to their reward before him. In 1867 he removed to the state of Kansas where he was called upon to give up his beloved wife to death. He removed to Newton Co, Mo in 1880 and united with the Indian Creek Baptist church in August 1881 where he remained a devoted member until his death. On the 28th day of November 1892 he was again united in marriage with Mrs. Mary J. Dotson, who survives him. He leaves a sorrowing wife, three sons, four daughters and twenty - five grand children. He was a man of good influence and will be greatly missed by the church and those who knew him best. He was also buried in Macedonia cemetery. Arrangements were made to have both funerals at Macedonia church at the same hour and both funerals to be preached by the same preacher which was done from the text, Deuteronomy 34-5 while both bodies were resting in front of the pulpit and the sorrowing relatives on each side with a part of the ministry and their wives immediately in front. There were at least one thousand persons who attended this service.
If you will notice closely you will observe a strange coincidence relative to these brethren. They were both born in Ky. the same year, the same day of the month, professed religion at the same age, died the same day in the same county and state and their funeral were preached at the same place at the same hour by the same man.
Surely "God moves in a mysterious way his wonders to perform" May God bless all the bereaved and prepare us all to meet these brethren in heaven, where we believe they have gone.

Obituary (Jasper Newton Hardy)
Died, at his home, 1 1/4 miles east of Ritchey, on Friday evening, Oct. 7th, 1892, of typhoid fever, Mr Newt Hardy. He was buried in Macedonia cemetery at Stella Saturday. It will be remembered that he lost his eldest son two weeks ago, by the same disease. His widow and daughter are down with the same fever but at this writing are improving some. (Newton County News, October 13, 1892)

Died Nov 14, 1904, of typhoid fever, Henry Hardy, son of James Hardy, aged 25 years 10 months and 6 days. Deceased was only sick a few days and oh what sorrow to see one so full of life and strength snatched away from us but God does all things well, we can only look to him for comfort in these sore trials. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community as was manifested by the large concourse of mourning friends who followed Henry to his last resting place. Funeral was held in the Elm Spring church, conducted by Rev. David Hopkins after which the body was laid to rest in the Elm Spring cemetery. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. A FRIEND (The Neosho Times, Nov 22, 1904)

Death of Henry Hardy
the deceased departed this live Nov 14, 1904. He was born in Green Co, KY, Mar 8, 1879; came to MO with his parents 1884. Henry was a grandson of old father Hardy, whom we all remember hearing preach the word of God in times past. He was converted when 18 years of age and united with the Baptist church at Elm Springs. From the time of his conversion till his death he was an active worker, both in the church and the Sunday School. He told his father on Saturday that he dad not have much longer to stay with him and expressed no regrets that the summons was calling him up higher. Henry was the fifth of the family to pass to the world beyond. The departed one leaves a father, mother, three brothers and three sisters to mourn for him, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Rev Hopkins conducted the funeral services from the church at Elm Springs, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery by the church. We can say nothing of consolation to the bereaved, for words are meaningless to the heart stricken ones. Only this can be said, that while we are only left behind for a few short days, let us so live that we may be sure of clasping hands on that bright shore, where there will be no more parting and remain forever on the right hand of God. A FRIEND (The Neosho Times, Nov 5, 1904)

James Green Hardy was born in Hart Co, Ky, Aug 1, 1856 and departed this life Apr 12, 1933, aged 76 years, 6 months and 11 days. When a small child, he moved with his parents to Green Co, KY, where he grew to manhood. When 16 years old, he was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist church at New Salem, Ky.
He was married to Martha Susan Strader, Dec 11, 1873, and to this union eleven children were born, four dying in infancy, and a son, Henry L Hardy, having passed away Nov 12, 1904, at the age of 24 years. Mr Hardy and wife came to MO in 1882 and lived in Laclede Co one year, coming then to Newton Co and settling on a farm near Stella where they lived until 1892. They moved to Elm Springs at that time and lived there until the time of his death.
Deacon Hardy, as he was so often called, was a devout Christian and was always at his post of duty in his church work until illness prevented his going. His wife passed away Jun 11, 1925, they having lived together over 51 years. They were schoolmates together all through their school life, and her going left him very lonely. He often expressed the desire to go on and be with her and their loved ones. He leaves to mourn their loss three daughters, Mrs Vona Thompson and Mrs Valeria Denny of Neosho and Mrs Della Pool of Ventura, CA.; three sons, V H Hardy and A M Hardy of Neosho and W D Hardy of Breckenridge, TX; one sister, Mrs Mattie Lewis of Stella (Neosho Times, April 20,1933, Newton Co, MO, Copy obtained through the Newton Co Historical Society)
