Charles Starrett Passes Away
Charles Wilmer Starrett, father of rev R W Starrett, of Merritt, passed away at the coast last Wed Feb 7th
Born in Ontario on 3/2/1897, Mr Starrett married Violet Lindsay in Jun 1920. They made their home in Toronto for a time, and later moved to the US. 12 yrs later they moved to Nanaimo, BC ans spent their latter yrs in Pentiction and Sydney, BC
While Mr Starrett has suffered for some time due to the effects of his services in WW1, he was only confied to his home for less then 2 wks, adn 4 days in hospital, before he passed away peacefully in Rest Haven Hospital at the age of 70 yrs, 11 mos & 4 days.
For many yrs a faithful members of the Pentacostal assemblies, he served on church boards and used his God-given talent for music to assist in services to the glory of God.
He leaves to mourn his wife, 4 sons, Bob, John, Dannie & David; 9 daughters, Magaret, Lawana, Betty, Ruth, Eva, Irene, Edith, Marion & Juanita, 32 grchildren and 1 grgrchild, besides a host of acquaintances in numerous places both in Canada and the US.
The funeral was held in the Pentacostal Church in Sydney, BC with interment in the Royal Oak Cem.
There were 28 members of his immediate family present, and 5 cars were needed to transport all the mourners.
Pallbearers were Mr Starett's 4 sons, and 2 sons-in-law, Earle Smith & Art Bain.
The solo for the funeral was sung by his son David.
Relatives came from as far as OH, LA & CA, as well as from BC and Ontario.
Mr Johnson, the funeral director, of Sand's Chapel of Roses, said it was the largest group of immediate relatives he has ever seen at a funeral.
Incidently, this was the first time in their lives that the entire family had ever been all together.

He leaves his wife, Violet, at home; sons, Bob, Merritt, BC; David, LA, USA; John, Salmon Arm, BC; & Danny, Kelowna, BC; Daughters, Mrs A (Margaret) Bain, N Surrey, BC; Mrs E (Lowana) Smith, Oceanside, CA; Mrs H (Betty) Baxter, Ontario; Mrs G (Ruth) McNutt, Penticton, BC; Mrs Eva Streton, Daytona, OH; Mrs L (Irene) Melton & Mrs J (Edith) Wallace, Oceanside, CA; Mrs S (Marion) Munoz, San Jose, CA, & Mrs W (Juanita) Davis, Seaside, CA; 32 grchildren; 1 grgrandchild, and his sister, Mrs W Farmer, FL, USA. Mr Starrett was a veteran of the 1st World War.
Service will be held in the Assembly of God Churhc, 9482 E Saanich Rd, on Sat, 2/10/1968, at 2:30 pm, Rev F R Fleming officiating. Interment in the Royal Oak Burial Park. Arrangements by the Sands Fuenral Chapel of Roses, Sidney, BC.

Charles Wilmer Starrett of 2482 Rothesay Ave, Sidney & formerly of Nanaimo & Penticton died in Rest Haven Hospital on Feb 7 at the age of 70.
Mr Starrett who was born in Ontario has been a resident of Sidney for the past 3 yrs. He leaves his wife, Violet at home, 4 sons, 9 daughters, 32 grchildren and one sister. He is a veteran of the 1st World War.
Service was held in the Assembly of God Church, E Saanich Rd on Feb 10 with Rev F R Fleming officiating. Arrangements were made by Sands Funeral Chapel of Roses, Sidney.
IRENE SMITH of Burnaby passed into the presence of her Lord 1/10/2004 at the age of 68 years. Irene is lovingly remembered by her family: 3 daughters, Belinda (Dennis) Hughes, Janet (Alan), Brantley, Karen Pearson (David Newman); 6 grandchildren, Brian, Christie, James, Cody, Sean and Alex. Irene is also remembered by her 2 brothers, David and Danny Starrett and 6 sisters, Margaret Bain, Betty Baxter, Ruth McNutt, Edith Wallace, Marion Munoz, and Juanita Mendenhall; as well as other relatives and many friends. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan 17 at 1:00 pm at Connaught Heights Pentecostal Church, 2001-8th Ave, New Westminster, BC, Canada

LOWANA JEAN SMITH, 62, d. Mon 7/6/1987, in a Duncan hospital after a short illness.
Service will be at 10 am Fri at the Bethel Assembly of God Church with the Rev Ron Meador officiating. Burial will be at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Lowana Jean Starrett b. 8/23/1924, in Miami, FL and lived in Canada, CA & OK. She m. Earl Smith on 4/12/1944, in Vancouver, Canada. Mrs Smith was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church and for the last 9 yrs served as an assistant director for Teen Round-Up Inc.
Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn & Keith Wren and Donna & James V Stewart; 3 brothers, Bob Starrett of Penticton, Canada, David Starrett of Baton Rouge, LA, & Danny Starrett of Vancouver, Canada; 8 sisters, Margaret Bain, Betty Baxter, Ruth McNutt, all of Vancouver, Eva Smith of Carmel, CA, Irene Starrett of Eugene, OR, Edith Wallace of Seattle, WA, Marion Munoz of San Jose, CA & Juanita Menden Hall of Gilroy, CA; and 3 grandchildren, Rob McLaughlin, Keith Stewart & Shelly Stewart.
Bearers will be Bud Kerley, Kim Kerley, Larry McNutt, Ken McNutt, Rob McLaughlin & Keith Stewart. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Chisholm Trail Hospice.
LOWANA SMITH Duncan, OK. Lowana Smith, 62, died Mon, 7/6/1987 in Cuncan, OK.
She was a former member of the Good Shepherd Chruch (Carlsbad Gospel Tabernacle), Carlsbad, CA.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Smith; and 2 daughters, Donna Steward of Duncan, OK; & Marilyn Wren of Tacoma, WA; and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Fri, 7/10/1987, at Duncan, OK. Arrangements by Grantham Mortuary.
VIOLET LETTISHA STARRETT passed away 11/2/1984 age 86 yrs. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer; and 1 son, John. She will be sadly missed by her surviving 9 daughters and 3 son, 33 grandchildren; 34 greatgrandchildren; also remembered by her sister and 2 brothers. Service will be held Tues, 11/6/1984 at 2pm in Broadway Tabernacle, 2677 E Broadway, Vancouver. Rev A Hornby officiating Royal Oak, Woodlawn-Bowell in care of arrangements.
