Funeral services will be at 3 pm Saturday in Harper-Talasek Funeral Chapel for Ballard Tankersley, 80, a former Killeen resident. Burial will be in the Killeen City Cemetary.
Tankersley was found dead in his Houston home Thursday. A Harris County investigator said he had been dead for several days. There was no evidence of foul play, according to the investigator.
A retired employee of the Killeen Post Office, Tankersley had lived in Houston for the past eight years.
He is survived by a son, Richard Foy Tankersley of Houston; a daughter, Mrs Lanell Hughes of Louisiana; and three grandchildren. (www.findagrave.com)

Funeral for Beatrice Rigsby Tankersley of Hartselle will be Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Dr. Ron Wilson and Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating. Graveside service will follow in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tankersley, who died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at her residence, was born in Blount County to Homer S. and Ruthie Weldon Rigsby. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle. She and her husband established Tankersley Sinclair Gas Station in 1949 on Main Street in Hartselle and moved to the current location on Highway 31 North in 1953. One of the oldest businesses in Hartselle, Tankersley Service Center has been under continuous family ownership for 57 years. Her husband, Braxton Comer Tankersley; and her daughter, Suzanne Tankersley McAbee, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Comer Tankersley and his wife, Becky, of Hartselle; one daughter, Dr. Anita Buckley Commander of Montgomery; one grandson, Frank Braxton Buckley and his wife, Lisa, of Decatur; two granddaughters, Jessica Suzanne Tankersley and Katherine Claire Tankersley, both of Hartselle; one sister, Delorise Reagan of Decatur; one brother, H.W. Rigsby of Gadsden; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Beatrice Buckley of Decatur.

The Cullman Tribune - Bobbye Jo Tankersley Latham
Bobbye Jo Tankersley Latham went to be with the Lord, 1 August 2009 at the Falkville Health Care Center after an illness of several years. She was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and true to her many friends.
She was born 28 November 1934 in Cullman County to Howard and Vertis Audrey Hammett Tankersley. She, her mother and sister, Helen Frances Fuller, made their home with their grandparents, Noah Henry and Orphia Donella 'Offa' Hammett at Lacon, Alabama.
She was a graduate of Falkville High School and attended Sacred Heart College, Cullman, and was a member of St Pauls Lutheran Church in Decatur, and before her illness worked for twenty years as an outside sales representative for State National Training Service.
While an Air Force wife, she traveled abroad to Garmisch, Germany and Paris, France, where her first child was born. She also lived in Delaware, Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her father, Pvt. Howard Tankersley, 7th Infantry, 3rd Division, World War I, her mother, Vertis Hammett Fuller, a sister, Helen Francis Fuller Curtis, and a grandson, Justin Douglas Ratcliff.
Graveside services were held 5 August 2009 at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Jack Baily Officiating.

Former Killeen resident Don Tankersley, 80, lately of Caldwell, died Friday night in a Temple hospital after a long illness.
Services are scheduled for pm today in the chapel of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, with ministers Charles Goodnight and Wilson Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Killeen City Cemetery.
Tankersley is survived by one brother, Ballard Tankersley of Houston; two sisters, Mrs Sam Adams of Lubbock and Mrs J B Jarnagin of Floydada; one nephew R D Chanslor, and one niece, Mrs Sidney Young, both of Killeen.
Pallbearers will be Toby Boydstun, Conrad Black, Dr Sidney E Young, Dr tom Young, Bobby Douglas and Guy Evans Sr.

Funeral service for Fred S Tankersley, who died last Thursday night after a brief illness, was held, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the First Baptist church, with: the pastor; Rev H M Weldon officiating. Burial was in the Albany cemetery.
Fred Tankersley, a carpenter by trade, was engaged in work at the Matthews Lambshead ranch when stricken ill shortly before noon, Thursday. He drove his car home, Not realizing his condition was serious until he reached home about 1 pm, and a physician was called. He passed away suddenly at 8 pm
Born April 6, 1884, at Mt. Neho in Navarro county. Frederick Staunton Tankersley grew to young manhood there. He was married to Ruby Mae Gorman February 18, 1906, and they made their home in Richland, where he was engaged in the hardware business until 1914, when the family moved to Athens and he entered the real estate trade.
Coming to Shackelford county in 1919, the family made their home on the Poindexter ranch for two years and then moved to Albany. He began his career as a carpenter at that time, following a trade he had long loved and engaged in as a hobby, mainly in making fine pieces of woodwork.
In later years Mr. Tankersley had spent much time in developing a fine orchard and garden and had raised some of the finest fruits and vegetables ever grown in the county. After the flood in 1940, which destroyed his home south of Hubbard Creek, he reestablished his home in Hill Top addition and had developed a fine orchard there, having grown trees that produced fruit every year.
He joined the Baptist church in his boyhood and had lived a consistent Christian life since. He devoted his entire time to his home and family and lived a quiet life.
Survivors besides his wife, are six children and four grandchildren. The children are Mrs Zella Mae Hightower of Fort Stockton; James Frederick Tankersley, who lived with his parents; Mrs. Grace Reames, of Albany; Samuei Jasper Tankersley and Mrs. Edna Langever, both of Fort Worth; and Mrs. Joan Cross, of Odessa. James Fred (Jim) Tankersley, 79, of Albany died July 27, 1988 at Humana Hospital in Abilene. Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 28 at Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey Funeral Home. The Rev Harvey Buckner officiated.
Born March 3, 1909 in Mt. Nevo, Texas, he was the son of Fred and Ruby Gorman Tankersley. He moved to Shackelford County in 1920, and married Ann Schkade February 14, 1950 in Cisco. He was a retired oilfield worker, and worked for the County Line for 20 years until 1985. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in three major invasions. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of Albany; a son, James F. Tankersley Jr, of Corpus Christi; a daughter, A Mrs. Jim (Melba) Graham of Albany; a brother, Jack Tankersley of Fort Worth; three sisters, Grace Reames of Albany, and Edna Earl Langever and Joan Cross, both of Fort Worth; and two granddaughters, Amy Balliew of Albany and Sara Tankersley of Corpus Christi. Funeral services will be held at 7 o'clock tonight at Geoorge H Lewis an Sons Funeral Home in Houston. Graveside services will be in a pm Saturday at Killeen City Cemetery.
Tankersley was born 8/22/1938, in Temple and had been a Houston resident the past 20 years. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and was a partner in the accounting firm of W H Shoemaker and Co of Houston.
A member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and American Institution of CPA's, he was a member of the Texas-Ex Association of the University of TX and a was a veteran of the Korean War.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home will direct local arrangements.

Tankersley was an oil field worker and had traveled extensively in South and Central America with his work.

P C Tankersley Answered Last Summons at Home of His Son at Fort Crook Last Fri - Deceased was Resident of Auburn for Many Years and Highly Respected
P C Tankersley, for many years a highly respected resident of Auburn, passed away at the home of his son at Fort Crook, NE last Fri. News of the death of Mr Tankersley was received here with the most sincere regret on the part of his friends, all of whom join in extending sympathy to the surviving members of his family. He was a man who led an active life, who had extensive business relations, and in his dealings with his fellow man he had gained a reputation for unswerving honesty and integrity. He was in every way a good man and a good citizen.
Preston Charles Tankersley was born in Carlisle, IN 9/17/1855, where he grew to manhood. In 1872 he moved with his mother to Shenandoah, IA, and on 10/7/1876, he was married to Jennie Lewellyn at that place. He was the father of 7 children, 3 of whom have passed away, and the children who survive with the wife and mother are C A Tankersley of Auburn, H R Tankersley of Lincoln, R A Tankersley of Fort Crook, and one daughter, Mrs H N Carter of South Sioux City, NE. He is also survived by one brother, M R Tankersley of Auburn.
The deceased came to Nemaha Co in 1882 and for a time lived on a farm north of Auburn. Later he moved to town where he entered business as a wholesale and retail dealer. He continued in this business until 1917 when he went to Falls City to take the position of manager of the Pragins Furniture Co. His family, however, continued to live in Auburn. About a year ago he resigned his position in Falls City and devoted his time to
looking after business and property interests in Auburn.
The remains were brought to this city and the funeral was held from the First M E Church at 2:00 o'clock Sun afternoon, with services being conducted by the pastor, Rev Drufinger. One of the musical selections was a duet sung by Mrs C R Hacker and Mrs C T Hacker, the words and music having been written by Mr
Tankersley and which was entitled "I Shall Live On." Many old friends were present and following services, the interment was in Sheridan Cemetery.
10/7/1926 Mr and Mrs Tankersley celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr Tankersley had marked literary ability and had written many poems of merit.

TERRY TANKERSLEY passed away July 13 at the age of 50. She is survived by her mother, Becky Brown, stepfather, Randy Brown, brother, Jim Tankersley, brother, Dr. Mike Tankersley, his wife Jessie, and 13 nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Joy Class at Bellevue Baptist Church where she was a member and attended the Day Program, Friends of Faith. She graduated from Avon-Lenox school. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18, from 9-11 a.m. at Munford Funeral Home, Millington Chapel. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens on Germantown Rd.
